Hidden in the Tide is a photographic portrait project with pupils from St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Deptford. Inspired by contemporary photographic techniques and working on the theme of identity. Hidden in the Tide was made by merging photographic self portraits with cyanotypes made from discarded objects found in Deptford creek and developed in the creek water. The children aged between 7 and 10 years old made self portraits of each other using a medium format camera and film, carefully choosing their clothing background and props. Each image has a story behind it, revealed in the writing about themselves and their identity, using the river as a metaphor. It was commissioned by Tideway
